The legal information behind this site
This page sets out the terms that sit underneath everything else on the site: what happens to any data the site collects, what cookies are used for, who owns the words and diagrams in the guidance, and the basis on which that guidance is offered.
Privacy
Where the site collects any personal data, for example through the contact address, that is covered separately on this page, along with what is kept and for how long.
Cookies
Any cookies the site sets, and what each one is for, are covered separately as well. Where a cookie is not strictly necessary for the site to work, it is described.
Copyright
The guidance, checklists and diagrams on this site belong to the practice that publishes it. What a reader is free to do with them, such as printing a checklist for a committee meeting, is set out in its own section.
Terms of the guidance
The guidance on committee handover, domain ownership, members' data and publication duties is written to help a volunteer act on their own situation. It sets out what the ICO (the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator), Nominet (the registry for .uk domains) and other bodies generally expect of a small organisation, with the source and the date checked given wherever a specific requirement is described. This is information, not legal advice, and an organisation with a complicated situation, a dispute over a domain, or an unusual governing document should take independent advice before relying on it.
Where a question is not answered on this page, the wider guidance is a reasonable place to start: see all guidance, or read more about the practice behind the site on the about page.
